A month ago, the Ballers gave up 74 points to the Bullets and after the game, team captain Chris Larson made some pointed remarks about the need for attention to detail on the defensive end of the court. The loss was their second in a row and second game in which a poor defensive performance led to their demise. The message has clearly been taken to heart, as the Ballers ended the regular season with a three game winning streak featuring strong defense, especially in the first half of each game.
After a slow start to the game (4-17 FGs), left the score at 8-6, the Ballers used a series of forced turnovers and great ball movement to blow open the game with a 23-5 run. Mike Reamy and James Chappell provided the firepower combining for 20 first half points. The Joy Boys characteristically drew multiple technical fouls leading to 6 more free throws for the ballers and they surged into the half with a 33-13 lead.
The Joy Boys showed some pride by running off the first 10 points of the second half, but it was too little too late, as Logan Seacrist lead the way with 8 second half points. The win clinches a playoff spot, likely in the #2 vs #3 semifinal. They will likely play the LA Stars or Self Check. This will be the last chance for the Ballers to add another trophy to their case and make it four years in a row with a championship.
