Ballers close out first half of season with win

This season in the City of Alexandria features a pair of newcomers looking to crash the party on the veteran teams. One of them, Only One Can Dunk, has received a rude welcome to the party with a string of blowout losses. The other team is just beginning to reveal where it will fit in the league calculus. One thing is for sure, they will put up a tough fight with a mix of veterans that have played in the league and against teams in the league in other forums.

In this initial matchup, Beat Durangos kept the pace for the first 25 minutes of the game, but ultimately could not withstand the balanced onslaught of high percentage conversions by the standard bearers in black. Mike Reamy's first half outburst (12 of his 14 points) paced 6 of the 7 Ballers with multiple baskets. The game itself featured a series of runs until GDB grabbed control of the game mid-way through the second half.

Co-Captain Mike Reamy (#10) leads the way with one of his trio of 3PT field goals as part of his game high 14 points.

The Ballers featured their stingy, league leading defense through the first 10 minutes, giving up just 3 points, en route to a 13-3 lead. Beat Durangos would not go quietly however riding a 15-7 run to get back to with 2 points. Mike Reamy converted three free throws off a foul right before halftime to give the Ballers a slim 23-20 lead at the break.

After some back and forth play, the Ballers asserted control behind crisp ball movement and hot shooting. Chris Larson nailed a pair of three pointers during a 19-3 run that broke the game open. The ball was flying around the court in precise fashion leading to 15 assists on the 19 Baller field goals. The offense operated at its most efficient with the team hitting on 47.5% of its FGs 50% of its 3FGs and 72% of its FTs. The Ballers were never seriously threatened the rest of the way in running their record to 5-0 on the season.

Co-Captain Chris Larson (#5) nails the three as part of a 19-3 second half run.
