Ok Fellas. We worked to get to this point, now we have to bring it for the championship game tomorrow night. Please arrive no later than 715pm at Francis Hammond Middle School.
Season Series tied 1-1
Game 1 - Green Dot won 63-62
Game 2 - Straight Cash won 66-60 in the rematch when they brought the 7ft 2 guy.
ON OFFENSE
Pace - We want pace to stay in the 50s to 60s. They want the pace in the 70s and 80s.
Strategy
Stick to what we do best - share the ball, find the open guy, dominate the paint and hit some outside shots (and FTs!!!)
They mostly play man to man, so lots of cutting and ball movement. They don't like to play a lot of defense, as they want to get teams into an up and down transition game.
If we don't have a clear advantage on the break, be content with pulling it out and getting a better shot.
If we move the ball, the shots will be there.
One key note - they really like to get some easy transition scores/cherry picking/run outs. We must have floor balance from our guards/wings.....in the play below with Chris and Mike in the corners, we have no back guards, once Cam takes the shot....our positioning (or lack thereof) plays right into their hands....
and turns into this...
On Defense
Strategy
We will start in zone defense but mix in our man to man throughout the night.
As a quick numbering scheme -
1 is man to man
2 is 2-3 zone
They want to shoot threes and get into transition. We need to continue to be vocal in the zone. I have never been on a team that talks so well in a zone defense. Please keep it up!!
For man to man, we need to run them off the three point lines, and hold them to one shot. We need five on the boards.
Individual Scout
Primary Matchup - Chris/Danny
Point guard is an excellent high volume three point shooter and playmaker. We need to make him a driver and not a shooter. He is driving to make a play for others, doesn't usually shoot inside the arc. Close out hard and run him off the line.
Primary Matchup - Cam/Dmag
Shooting guard is a quality shooter and strong on the drive. He tends to float if the other players have the ball, but is looking to make things happen when he has it.
Primary Matchup - Reamy/Dmag/Charlie
Small Forward is a three level scorer. Gotta stay attached to him. Close out hard to force the drive. He is driving to shoot.
Primary Matchup - Will/Tony/Reamy
Power Forward lives in the dunker spot, good on the offensive boards and can knock down the three. Also likes to leak out early in transition. Box him out. Has a nose for "winning plays"
Primary Matchup Keonte/Charlie/Dmag
This is their most talented player. He can dunk, block shots and fly down the court. He was also the one who gave the impassioned speech last week when Joy Boys had them on the ropes. Can't let him feel comfortable. He can score at all three levels and is driving to score.
The other players they rotate off the bench are solid contributors that play their role well, but if we have to let someone shoot it should be one of them.
To finish things off on an inspirational tip - will need to go back to Charlie's Icelandic Viking Poem
