Game Summary

Self Check always presents a good test due to their continuity and strong guard play. Green Dot came out of the gates quickly scoring off the opening tip and 4 of their first 5 possessions. However, a flurry of 3s kept Self Check in line with the Ballers. The first half finished with the score reflecting the back and forth nature, 30-28 GDB. A cold spell then hit GDB as a Mike Reamy three would provide their only scoring in the first eight minutes of the second half. After falling behind 37-33, Danny Abatemarco keyed a 15-6 run that provided a five point lead that would carry the Green Dot crew to a season opening win.

Headlines

Clutch time execution - GDB struggled to close out tight games last year. This year, they set the tone for a new season by grinding out defensive possessions and scoring key baskets. Mike Reamy's three pointer with 5:33 to play turned out to be the dagger. A little better performance at the free throw line (3-10) would be an even better way to close out the game, but all in all, a great way to start the season.

Depth perception - The Green Dot Ballers feature an incredible amount of depth throughout the roster. This was evident in the box score, featuring three players in double figures led by Tony Wroblicky's 11 points, combined with the fact that everyone scored and all but one had at least 1 assist.

Welcome Back RoY - 2022 Rookie of the Year Cam Wade was sidelined most of last year with a knee injury. The Ballers were thrilled to have their starting guard back in the lineup and creating havoc again on both ends of the court. Wade had the typical first game of winter rust in his shooting performance, but contributed 4 points and a game tying high 4 assists in his return.

Tony Wroblicky - Wroblicky provided the needed presence in the paint with his team high scoring and numerous rebounds and altered shots.
