Thrilling GDB comeback leads to OT win

Game Summary

The Green Dot Ballers once again won a close game at the very end, this time extending into overtime to pick up their third straight win. The Ballers seemed to have the game under control entering halftime, but Straight Cash ran off an 11-0 run in the last 90 seconds to lead 38-30 at the break. A 16-6 run gave the lead back to GDB at 47-46, but the opponents Cash-ed in on threes to take a 68-59 lead, but the Ballers would not go away with a 12-2 response to take the lead again at 71-70. A frenetic last minute sent the game into overtime and DaMar Hall stepped forward to score the two winning baskets.

DaMar Hall scores consecutive baskets in OT

Headlines

Special "D"-livery - DaMar Hall came up big in the overtime, scoring both baskets in the two minute extra period. After doing most of his damage in the second half by setting up his teammates (4 assists) he took matters into his own hands with the Ballers down by one, he converted consecutive drives to the basket to seal the win for Green Dot.

Sharing is caring - The trademark Green Dot Ballers equal opportunity offense saw 4 players in double figures and assists on 2/3 of their field goals (24 assists on 34 made baskets). Chris Larson led the way with nine assists. The theme was also evident on the boards, as the Ballers picked each other up to the tune of 13 offensive rebounds.

Finding his groove - Guard Cam Wade had been struggling to find his shot as he gets acclimated to the City of Alexandria League, including an 0-10 outing from the field last week. This week, Wade broke out in a big way with 24 points, including a huge 17 second half points. after missing two of his first three shots, he scorched the nets on 9-11 shooting, including a run of 10 consecutive points midway through the second half.

Turning Point

CHAOS in the last minute once again - Green Dot found themselves down 78-74 with a minute left. Wade made a great hustle play chasing down a rebound from across the court and then scoring on a quick cut during the ensuing inbounds. The Ballers then forced a turnover, but looked to be in trouble when a loose ball scramble ended up in a turnover. However a full court press by Wade, Hall and Tracy came up with the steal and tying basket. A desperation shot at the buzzer left the teams in overtime and setup the heroics by Hall.

MVP

All around team effort - With Mike Reamy, Danny Abatemarco and Will Harris out of action this week, the Ballers would need others to step up across the board and that is what happened. Kyle Welty with an all around game, Wade and Hall with the timely scoring punch, Ryan Demagistris overcoming a kick to the mouth to pour in 12 points, Chris Larson with the 9 assists and Winston Tracy with points, boards, defense and the tying basket at the end of regulation.

Up Next

Sniper Elite (4-0) 8:30pm - A win by the Ballers would win the regular season title and the number 1 seed in the tournament. A loss is likely the 3 seed and a quarterfinal date next week with the 6 seed.
