Winter 2020 - Week 7 Power Poll

The showdown has been set - Undefeated squads, Joy Boys and Green Dot, will battle it out in week 8 to determine regular season supremacy, for all intents and purposes. Among other things, they become the first two teams to clinch playoff spots this week. Everyone else is either playing for one of the other two playoff spots or playing for pride.

The showdown for #1

#1 Joy Boys (6-0) - The highest octane offense in the league continues to roll along with another 70+ point performance this past week in their romp over OOCD. In the City of Alexandria arms race, the Joy Boys have signed yet another shooting star to add to their mix. The first real test of the season will come in Week 8 vs. arch rivals Green Dot Ballers. Can anyone slow this crew down?

#2 Green Dot Ballers (7-0) - Another potential attendance loss was avoided, when Captain Chris Larson came to the rescue with an out of the blue performance. While his teammates found tough times from the field, the long time Baller point guard posted a career high 22 points on a sizzling 8-9 from the field. The question for this week - Can the GDB top ranked defense can do anything to slow down the juggernaut that is the Joy Boys offense this season? The answer to that question will determine who the #1 seed will be in the postseason tournament and which team can dream about running the table.

Battle for the last two playoff spots

#3 Beat Durangos (3-1) Barely squeaked out a win vs. potential spoilers Grant Thornton. By avoiding the loss, they stay in pole position for one of the last two playoff spots. They have a long way to go, having played the least number of games and facing a final two game stretch at the end of the season with back to back games vs. Joy Boys. Best to take care of business now and not leave it to the end. First up, avoid the upset bid vs. Bullets this week. Projected final record 6-4

#4 Monstars (3-2) Monstars loss to G-Men last week starts to put pressure on the Monstars ever elusive path to the playoffs. As a team who frequently loses tie-breakers, the G-Men loss puts them behind the eight ball again and likely has them on the outside looking in. Projected final record - 5-5

#5 Durangos (2-4) - A bye week clearly laid out their path to the playoffs. Win out including a week 11 win vs. Monstars. Will still need help from others to break into the tie-breakers, but will be a big fan of Joy Boys, as the Boys final three games are Monstars and a Home and Home with Beat Durangos. If Joy Boys sweep then things turn to tie breakers. Projected final record - 6-4

#6 G-Men (3-4) Gave the undefeated GDB all they could handle with a James Harden like performance from their own bearded shooting guard (30+ points) but now face a tough climb with losses head to head with Beat Durangos and Durangos. Projected final record - 6-4

Playing for Pride

#7 Bullets (2-4) - Had a chance to push their way into the playoff mix, but once again could not muster enough players and offense to come away with the win. The permanent enigma of the CoAL is once again on the outside looking in.

#8 Grant Thornton (1-6) - Nearly pulled a big upset against #3 Beat Durangos. Could have been a bright spot in an otherwise bleak season for the purple and gold squad.

#9 Only One Can Dunk (0-6) - Blasted again by top ranked Joy Boys. At least OOCD is showing up to take their lumps and not submitting any forfeits.

Game of the week

Tuesday - 3/3 - #2 Green Dot Ballers vs. #1 Joy Boys - Not only does this matchup feature the Top ranked Offense (70.7/gm) vs top ranked Defense (44.7/gm) but those units are so far ahead of the pack. No other team averages even 60 points/gm on offense and every other team gives up at least 50 points a game on defense. The stakes are high and the teams are ready.

Standings Key

Green means a win, Red means a loss, white is the game this week.

There are 10 games and 11 opponents for each team, so the column to the right is the team that is missed in the rotation.
