Winter Session Ends with Ballers declared champs

Updated: May 14, 2020

Ballers in action - virus shut down a chance to do a team picture, so I made on of us in action!

In a solemn press conference, the City of Alexandria announced that the 2020 winter session would end as it stands, due to the impact of the coronavirus. With most of the regular season complete and a full round robin having been played by the top teams, the Green Dot Ballers were awarded the championship on the strength of their undefeated 8-0 record and having defeated all of the other teams that have played this session.

The season ended for the Ballers in exciting fashion with a head to head showdown of undefeated teams that ended up serving as the de facto championship game. The Ballers seemed to have a sense of the stakes when they jumped out to a 24-2 first half lead, but in this all-time rivalry, the only thing that has proven itself to be true is that the game is never over. GDB withstood a furious 18-0 rally over the final 13 minutes of the game that saw the Ballers down 3 points and a chance to score, but were ultimately turned back.

The 2020 title gives the Ballers even year titles for the third time in a row, joining the 2016 and 2018 winter campaign championships and give them an six titles over the last decade. Hopefully basketball will be able to return at some point in the next year, but until then, the City of Alexandria will have a familiar defending champion to kick things off.
